Taoism is a very old and rich philosophy.  With its roots dating to 1046 B.C.E. in Ancient China, Taoism is one of the world's oldest philosophical systems.  Taoism is dynamic keeping pace with the times, but its fundamental principles remain unchanged.

Professor Donna Quesada, Santa Monica College - Lecture philosophy of Taoism.

Taoist Fundamental Principles

There is a way about nature that manifests itself through subtle energy, it is called Tao.  The Tao is neutral, it does not play favorites.   A person who studies the way of the Tao may learn to harmonize with the Tao.  When you are in harmony with the Tao the Tao is with you.

The Tao always restores balance.  Any action or behavior taken to the extreme yields the opposite results.  Violence, desire, and complexity are not the way of the Tao.  Do no harm.  Simplify your ways.  Love the world as yourself.  Know power but practice peace. Do not judge.  Trust your feelings more than your eyes and intellect.
